SHIB is an altcoin created on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain.
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is a meme token inspired by Japan's famous hunting dog, the Shiba. Created on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain as an altcoin, SHIB is considered an alternative to Dogecoin (DOGE).
The Shiba Inu (SHIB) ecosystem is entirely under the control of the Shiba Inu community. In fact, Shiba Inu was created to answer the question: "What would happen if a cryptocurrency project were 100% community-managed?" The Shiba Inu community is called SHIBArmy, and its members adhere to the following principles:
The Shiba Inu ecosystem consists of SHIB token, LEASH token, and BONE token. The ShibaSwap decentralized finance (DeFi) platform, Shiba Inu Incubator, and Shiboshi NFTs are also part of the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
SHIB token is a cryptocurrency created on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain using the ERC-20 standard. The SHIB token, which is the cryptocurrency of the Shiba Inu ecosystem and supported by SHIBArmy, began as a meme token. In other words, it was initially not a utility or governance token. However, as the Shiba Inu ecosystem has grown, various functions of the SHIB token have emerged.
For example: the SHIB token supports the ShibaSwap platform. Similarly, it powers the Shiba Inu Incubator, which was established to support Shiboshi NFTs and artists.
Besides SHIB token, the Shiba Inu ecosystem also includes Leash (LEASH) and Bone (BONE) tokens. The LEASH token has a supply of 107,646 and is far more scarce than SHIB. The BONE token serves as the governance token of the Shiba Inu ecosystem. SHIB token can also be used to acquire BONE and LEASH tokens through ShibaSwap.
Shiba Inu (SHIB) was founded in August 2020 by an individual or group using the pseudonym Ryoshi. Ryoshi launched the project as an alternative to Dogecoin (DOGE), which was created in December 2013, and similar meme coins.
Ryoshi locked 50% of the total supply in a liquidity pool on the Uniswap (UNI) decentralized exchange and sent the remaining 50% to the wallet of Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin. Buterin burned (destroyed) the majority of the tokens sent to him and donated a portion to charity. This move reinforced SHIB's decentralized nature and played a significant role in the community's growth.
SHIB is an ERC-20 token running on the Ethereum blockchain. It does not have its own independent blockchain; transactions take place on the Ethereum network, using Ethereum's Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. This allows it to benefit from Ethereum's security.
In 2023, the Shiba Inu ecosystem launched Shibarium, a Layer-2 network. Shibarium processes transactions on its own chain rather than on the Ethereum mainnet, offering lower fees and faster transaction speeds. Transaction fees on Shibarium are paid in BONE tokens. This structure aims to bring scalability to Shiba Inu and place it among Layer 2 solutions.
Additionally, ShibaSwap is the ecosystem's decentralized exchange (DEX) and operates on an automated market maker (AMM) model. Users can swap tokens, provide liquidity, and earn rewards through staking.
SHIB token was launched with a maximum total supply of 589,552,695,333,680. Fifty percent of the supply was locked as liquidity on Uniswap, and the other fifty percent was sent to Vitalik Buterin. Buterin burned approximately 90% of the SHIB he received and donated the remainder to a Covid relief fund in India. This burn significantly reduced the total supply.
LEASH, another token in the ecosystem, has a limited supply of only 107,646. BONE is capped at 250 million and is used for ecosystem governance and Shibarium transaction fees.
The SHIB token whitepaper is referred to as the "Woof Paper." You can download the Woof Paper here. In this document, the project is described as "a spontaneous experiment in decentralized community building."
Although SHIB began as a meme token, the growth of its ecosystem has introduced various use cases:
Unlike other meme coins, Shiba Inu (SHIB) has evolved into a functional ecosystem featuring ShibaSwap, Shibarium, Shiboshi NFTs, and a metaverse project. Through its platform, Shiba Inu introduces the SHIB community to the world of NFTs and supports artists from around the globe who create Shiba-dog-themed works.
The Shiba Inu (SHIB) community has also organized numerous charity campaigns, collecting donations in SHIB tokens. Moreover, technical infrastructure investments like Shibarium ensure the project stands not only on community support but also on a solid technical foundation.
Due to its enormous supply, SHIB has a very low unit price. Price movements are largely driven by community interest, social media trends, and overall market conditions. The primary reason SHIB is considered a risky investment is the high volatility inherent to its meme coin nature. For live price data, you can visit the SHIB price page.
The Shiba Inu ecosystem carries several risks:
You can purchase SHIB by opening an account on Bitlo and trading on the SHIB/USDT pair. For detailed steps, check out the how to buy Shiba Inu (SHIB) guide.
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is a cryptocurrency created on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain, inspired by the Shiba dog breed.
LEASH token is the limited-supply token of the Shiba Inu ecosystem. BONE token is the ecosystem's governance token and is used for transaction fees on the Shibarium network.
SHIBArmy is the name given to the global community that supports and embraces the Shiba Inu (SHIB) project.
The maximum supply of SHIB token is 589,552,695,333,680. A portion of this was burned by Vitalik Buterin.
SHIB token can be used to acquire BONE token on ShibaSwap, provide liquidity, participate in NFT projects, and it is utilized in various applications within the ecosystem.
